Building on a generous donation from Harry and Christine Dierks, the Foundation Trust is presenting annual Citizenship Awards to one boy and one girl from the eighth grades in each middle school in New Braunfels. These awards are based on good citizenship, ethical conduct, school attendance, grades, and participation in extracurricular activities or employment. While grades are considered, it is not required that a candidate for the award have high scholastic marks.
The Trust began a 5 year campaign in the summer of 2013 to raise $1 million. The goal was to place $500,000 toward scholarships ($100,000 annually) and another $500,000 into building the assets of the Trust. The “First Step” campaign awards post-secondary career tech and vocational scholarships to area graduating seniors. This year, 2017, the Trust board allocated $66,000 to 44 scholarship recipients that were recognized at a reception in May.
With an inaugural event in 2001, the Foundation Trust began presenting it’s Living Legends of New Braunfels Awards. At the Celebration Luncheon featuring the Living Legends up to three Living Legends of New Braunfels are recognized for their years of dedicated support to the people of New Braunfels. We take time to recognize their contributions to the community, listen to a true Texas Legend speak on what it means to be a legend and celebrate as the three legends are presented a Legends Trophy and their names engraved on the Living Legends Fountain, located at the Civic Center.
